Default '95 2500 4x4 shift on the fly?

Hey everybody. I have a '95 2500 4x4 with the automatic tranny. with this model is it safe to shift into four wheel drive on the fly or is it best not to? I have never tried it cause i've been afraid of breaking the transfer case and the tranny itself. I shift out of four wheel drive on the fly and have no trouble. how about shifting into 4x4 while in drive at a stop is that safe? thats what i've been doing. or how does everybody else shift into 4x4 with regards to which gear your in rolling or stopped?

Default 4x4 shift on the fly

I have a '95 2500 and it shifts into 4WD high while moving slowly no problem. I wouldn't recommend it at road speed though and I have to stop and put the trans in neutral to get into or out of 4WD low.

I have a thing that hung from the mirror when the truck was new. Says you can go from 2wd high to 4wd high at speeds up to 55. I also knew a friend who's father is a mechanic at dodge and asked him about it (before i found that mirror thing) and he suggested 35 and below. I was in the truck when he did it "on the fly" and thats why I first asked him about it. That being said, I have always stopped and put it in neutral, shifted it into the range i want, and then put her back in drive. Never shift into Low while moving. you do need to stop to do that. but 2wd hi to 4wd hi is perfectly fine aparently.

Never tested on my ram but it tested the max speed on my 96 Dakota was capable of 4hi on the fly at 103mph but not more (would not recommend, only did it to see where the failure point was) but I could reliably slap her in 4hi between 60-80mph on any icy/snowy road. Saved my *** several times in Montana!
