when to replace timing chain?
what else would be messed up from my rod? the engine turns over fine now, but i still have yet to remove the heads and the rod itself....i figured what zman did, if i need another, just swap parts....
You could have stuffed the piston top into the valves, damaged the cylinder, damaged the crank, damaged the distributor drive gear, jumped time, broken valve springs. The list can go on. Hydro locking a engine tears a lot of stuff up, or you could have gotten extremely lucky and damaged nothing more then a rod, but I wouldn't bet on that. Good luck
the piston on the rod that is bent was down and one of the weights on the crank had scraped against the bottom of the piston and stopped the engine.....i loosened the rod cap and that gave just enough room for it to turn freely......so i can only hope...
Honestly for 1500 you can prb pick up a brand new short block with heads and warrenty, just the other stuff over. Taking a guess on that engine could end up being more costly in the end anyway. Or you could pick up an engine from a junkard for maybe even 500. Its up to you whether you want to chance it or not. Shoot theres one place about 2 hours from me that has great prices. Here is novembers flyer. (note $75 for an engine)

I wouldn't dilly dally with that block, just scrap it for 10 cents a pound.
