Title says it all, I want to either get a bigger tank or install a second tank.

The small tank on this truck is killing me, hell my CJ5 has a bigger tank.

Is there an easy way to install a second tank on the other side of the bed easily or is it more trouble than it is worth?

 

Depends how ugly/pretty ya want it. It aint goin to be very pretty. Lol.

 

I don't want one of those in bed tanks.

I was just thinkng of mounting another tank on the opposite side my main one is on and running fuel lines to mate up with the main line some where, I then install switches to turn on or off the seperate fuel pumps. In my head it all sound easy and very basic install, but any one that has ever worked on a car knows this does not always work as advertised.

 

how big is yer tank? mines a 35 gallon, and thats good for 600 miles. so a 35 gallon would prolly fit, just need different straps, and prolly a diff pump too

Inless you swapped the tank on the CJ5, it came with a 16 gallon tank. My 01 1500 (which I assume has the same tank as yours) comes with a 26 gallon tank. If you really wanted to try to rig something up, I would look into pulling a tank from a 2500. My friends 01 2500 tank was 35? I believe. Don't quote me though. Honestly I don't think its worth carrying an extra 72 lbs, but what ever floats your float

 

My CJ has a 25 gallon tank, I personally did not swap it but the way th filler neck is I think there was some work done to it.

I am just tired of having to fill up every week and a half. Because of where I live it is about 10 miles or so just to the closest town, it require a lot of breaking and accelerating.

I am looking into a throttle body spacer and a cold air intake to help boost my MPG, but California really restricts the mods you can do to vehicles so that is about the extent of what I can do to boost my MPG.

 

Filling up every week and a half is not bad at all. It's 5 miles for me to the closest town. If your looking to achieve better mileage, go back to stock tire size if you are not already, choose a tread pattern that is not so agressive (least rolling resistance). Make sure your tires are inflated properly. The consensus on here is that the TB spacers don't do anything for these engines. I do not have one to offer input. Depending on how you drive your truck, a set of gears could help out too.

 

I got a 24 or 26 I think...plenty why more? my old bronco had 35...way more than I needed.

I get around 350 miles out of my 35 gallon tank which works out to around 10 mpg
I do know that my driving habits severally jack with my mileage but even when i ***** foot around in mine i can get maybe 400 out of a tank
