Help with 2001 Ram 2500
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. Great place! I have a buddy with a 2001 Ram 2500. He says that at higher speeds he gets a vibration and humming sound coming from the tranny or front end somewhere. It increases with speed. It may be present at lower speeds too just very subtle. I questioned if his tires were in balance and they are. He thinks it may be a bearing or tranny issue. Any suggestions or cures for this problem?? TIA!
Could be rear axle also. Mine's trashed right now and I'm getting the same kind of thing. It's amazing how vibes and noises will transmit up the driveline and sound like it's coming from someplace it's not. Could be a bad chain in the t-case, could be a bad torque convertor or pump in the tranny. The overdrive unit is a planetary gear system in those, could be that too. It's really hard to track something like this down without being there to check the truck out.
Maybe take it to a shop for a free estimate. Then they'll tell you what's wrong and you can fix it on your own if you want to.
