Calling all the experts out there!! I had a CEL come on and just went and had it read at Advance Auto. Code was P1281. I read somewhere on a link that someone posted that this was " Injection Control Pressure Out of Range, High." Can someone tell me in simple terms what this is?

Hey I did put in a 180* thermostat about 1 month ago and it has ran fine since then but it was 16* Wednesday morning so I guess the engine could have been cold for to long. But I believe there is a specific engine code for "Engine to cold to long" mine was P1281 anybody have any information on this. See my original thread for what I found this code stood for.

 

Hey I googled P1281 trouble code and several Dodge vechicles said it was Engine too cold too long! I did not find it specifically for a 01 Ram but I figure it must be a common code that dodge PCMs throw when it detects this condition. The 180* thermostat coupled with a 14X3 round air cleaner is probably sucking to much cold air when it was 16* Wednesday morning. If someone knows for sure that this is the problem let me know. If it is I then need someone to tell me where I can get a 2 stage thermostat for my 01. Thanks!!

 

If it's only 16 degrees then I would recommend just putting a stock 195 in and be done. Change it back to a 180 in the summer if you want.

 

Or, going old school and place a piece of large cardboard in front of the radiator to hold engine heat in place.

 

Sounds like you have almost the same truck as mine. If it came with the Off road package from the factory your going to want to put that warmer thermo. in it. If it starts getting any colder than that you definately want to put something in front of the radiator, esp if you drive fairly long distances with your truck. You should have a fairly large trans cooler in the front of your truck and if its really cold outside idling your truck for long periods of time (i.e. warming it up b/c its cold outside). Your transfluid could possibly gel in the cooler and then cause your pump to burn up!
