How can i tell what tranny i have? What is a defining feature that makes it easy to tell them apart. I have a V10 2500 and i heard that they have the Nv4500 but how can i be sure? Also how can i tell what axel i have.. and what gears? I have been wondering for so long. I got under the truck and all i saw was dana but no number.... I have double leaf springs..

gotta feed them horses,
well MonteC just posted pics of what it would look like, time to get the garage creeper out and take a look.
your 2500 is tall enough you could get a small child uner it to take a pic. LOL
think your axle info is under the hood, literally under the hood. lift the hood up and look up. thats where I found my info.

Actually, I have 10 speeds because of the transfer case. 5 low and 5 high! Hahah, sorry, have to give you some crap because I thought you were some awesome mechanic dude that swapped in a 4500 for better towing, etc. No offense intended, at least you're now in the know. As far as what came with what: 2500s have the 4500 for the 360, v10 and ctd up til 99 as some ctd got the 5600 but not until 01 did they have the beefed up 5600 due to the HO ctd. I've never seen a 1/2 ton with a 4500 or a 1500 for that matter, even though the chilton has it as an option. So:
1500 318= nv3500
2500 360, v10, ctd= 4500
2500 h.o. ctd= 5600
1500 318= nv3500
2500 360, v10, ctd= 4500
2500 h.o. ctd= 5600
