tire size
i have a 01 ram 1500 4x4 reg cab 8 ft bed the stock size is 225/75/16 i have 245/75/16 what is the largest tire i could run. the truck is not lifted. i was thinking of leveling it up and if so how big could i go.
my door size says 225/75/16 and i got 17 on the way back form the poconos mts. is about 2.5 hrs away or 136 miles and i was goin 100 down the turn pike on the way home. that was with the 245 on it and im not sure about the 225.
Cool...I guess they sent them out in a vareity of styles...my door says 245, and some say 265...that's good mileage! I considered buying a set of 245's when gas was around $4/gal. to see if it would get me an extra couple mpgs.
I just have 265's right now, but I figured if the 245 was stock, going back to that size might net me 1-2 mpg...mine are 16x7's too. When I get new wheels/tires, I want 16x8 with 285's...due to the 3.55 gears.

Anyway, I hear ya on the gearing...I worry about putting 285's on it, but I think the 265's look too small b/c of the HUGE fender wells. I considered getting a 3" lift, but I am afraid 33's would look too small, and I don't want to run bigger...so I think I have decided to just get a 2" level kit and run 285's.
285's look good on stock susp. and don't totally overload the gears. if you put on a lift ($$$), then you'll need 35's ($$$), and then you'll have to have gears, front and rear, ($$$$), and then you've just got a boat load of money wrapped up in it.
