i have never put anything in the bed for weight, on ant truck i have owned. i just put in 4x4 and go. i think sand bags are a smart idea though. if you, or someone else gets stuck you can use it for traction.

AWW you guys are a bunch of Pussies.

No added weight. Spinnin' tires is fun.

You dont need extra weight when you have a 4x4.

I rarely use 4x4 during the winter. The weight in the bed gives me more then enough traction to handle just about anything with ease. I prefer it that way so there is less wear and tear on my 4 wheel drive components (it'll last longer that way). I only use 4x4 when the snow gets deep or if I need traction getting up inclines.

i rarely use 4x4 and i never use weight. the weight in the bed is a bad idea. without weight in the bed u may spin about but you can regain traction and control very easily with all the weight in the bed the minute you start to go sideways you are screwed the extra inertia that weight has will just drag you right along with it.

Sorry man but I have to disagree with you on that. I find it much easier to maintain and regain traction with weight in the bed of my truck. To each his own though.

I run 300 lbs of sand over the rear axle

THEM FIGHTING WORDS!! Maybe you don't need the weight because your backend is already big and heavy enough?!?

On a serious note...pickup have ALWAYS been known to drag in the rear because of how much lighter it is. My old Bronco never had this problem...because of the even weight.

You all reminded me I need to get some sand bags...don't know how much because this is the first winter I will be driving with my canopy on...I know that sucker is heavy. Cause I am big guy and I could barely get it off by myself. Myself meaning I was out the next day sore and drinking beer to recover! I will NEVER take it off and on by myself again.
