Default 4 wheel drive help

hey guys, just got to use my 4 wheel drive in my truck yesterday for the first time ever, it snowed here in michigan and i decided, hell why not put it in 4 wheel drive and test it out, ive never owned a 4x4 before and i have a couple questions, is it usually loud when driving in 4 wheel drive, it makes like a whining noise?, also, when turning at full lock, does the front end usually hop?(thats what it feels like its doing) thanks guys

Yes, the front usually hops when using 4WD.

Like they said, both are normal. However, my rule of thumb is if you're getting some hop, the surface is good enough to not use 4wd.
