Default make up my mind.

need help making up my mind. headers or h.s 1.7's.

as soon as christmas is over or depending on the christmas bonus this week might be earlier, i am going to be purchasing one or the other. i am kinda leaning towards the 1.7's. both can be found for under 400$. i feel my truck is lacking a little down low, thats why i am leaning that way.

headers are gonna be the shorties, ceramic coated. either pacesetters or edelbrocks. pacesetters are a little cheaper.i found them for 334$. found the edelbrocks for 390$.

headers both have,16guage steel, ceramic coated and 3/8 flange and all mounting hardware.

paces have 1 1/2 primes and 2.5 collectors.3yr warranty

edel's have 1 5/8 primes and 2.25 collectors and collector doughnuts.? warranty

i know there are a few that have done both, headers and 1.7's. which did you like better? which gave you more on the butt dyno?

are either coated inside and out? couldnt find that info.

silver what valve cover gaskets did you use? and did you have, or have you had any issues with install or after install?

I used Mopar valve cover gaskets I recall. I did have a leak, but it was because my valve cover bolts had loosened up. After retightening, I have had no leaks.

I've posted this before, but here's some tips.

The part about needing to turn the engine over to be able to get the right angle on the rockers (step 9), I found that was not necessary. You should not need to crank the engine over at all during install, nor set anything to TDC. It's not necessary. If you want to crank the engine after you have them all installed, and then recheck the torque on each one, that is probably an ok idea. You should do an oil change after the install too.

One piece of advice, be very careful with the pushrods, as it is possible that if you accidentally lift them up just right then drop them, they can slide down past the lifters into the lifter valley below. Then you will need to remove your intake/heads to retrieve them, so be careful. Otherwise, once you do the first pair of rockers, the rest are pretty easy. It is a little tricky to hold them together on the shaft while trying to set them down (especially with assembly lube on your fingers), but it gets easier with each one.
One other tip. I used a little mirror to look underneath each rocker after each pair was placed down to make sure the pushrod was seated just right in its little dimple. It is possible to have it off to the side, and you won't realize it until you try to torque down the rocker pair, and then it will either jump into place, or bend. So before you tighten each pair, use your fingers to feel if the pushrod is in place correctly, but I also looked with a little mirror just to make sure.

Also, this is a good thread to read, it has some other good tips and info:

No problem man. It is a pretty easy install, and really makes a nice performance gain. I was told they are a 20-25hp mod. Based on my experience, i'd believe it.
