ok I have a 2001 Ram 1500 4x4 5.2L with the 3.55 rearend, I have to replace the pinion bearings I was wondering does anyone know what the torque specs are for retorquing the Pinion Nut? i have a few books but they dont tell me oh wait I just looked and found it, it says 210 ft lbs does that sound correct?
Yes that is correct but the most important specs is the pinion bearing preload,as in the rotational torque on the pinion shaft. With new pinion bearings it should be 15-35 INCH/POUNDS and original bearings should be 10-20 INCH/POUNDS
now i get the 15-35 with the crush sleeve right? so just slowly tighten the nut on the pinion until the preload is 15-35lbs. Now should I be more towards the 15 or 35 or should I be somewhere in the middle?
