Default rough idle/ misfire at idle

hey guys, I'm new to this site so if this topic has been covered somewhere else please feel free to let me know. I've got a 96 ram 1500, 5.9L 4x4 and I've got a rough idle/misfire, It's only happens when the engine is warm and only happens at idle and is more noticeable when the truck is in gear than in park or neutral. it has tripped my check engine light a few times but seems to be doing it more now. the scanner has picked up a "random misfire" twice but this last time was a cyl. 7 misfire, I've thought about it being a vacuum leak but the scanner has never picked one up, and the cyl 7 plug and wire seem fine, where should I start??????? I don't want to just dive into replacing the intake manifold gasket if I can start easier somewhere else, I've had this prob for a while and the last tune up I did only fixed it for a couple of days. am I going to have to pull the manifold? how bad is it on the 5.9? the only ones I've done to this point were all on older carbourated trucks, I've never had to do one on a fuel inj. motor yet. how long (estimate) is my rig going to be out for? a day or a weekend?

any help or insight will be greatly appreciated!!!

Well mine's been doing similar, very rough idle/dieing and then surging. I've been looking around and a common theme seems to be the TPS and IAC. Those would be my suggestions to look at first, but Im still in the research stage myself. Hope some others will give you some better advice.

That was the problem with mine about 8 months ago (and also a honda i had a couple years ago) in both cases it was the TPS, i replaced the one on my honda and this time around with the truck i took it out and cleaned it up good and she's been running fine ever since. I would start with that first (quick and doesnt cost a thing) and go from there.

Four year old thread? Kudos for searching at least......

Nother member that had this problem replaced his crank sensor, and the problem was fixed. Of course, he had already dealt with the plenum and such.

+1... Read the plenum sticky, sounds like a bad o2 as a result of the plenum gasket. .

After doing some more searching.. I saw that the ground wire for the pcm to the engine block was corroded and had actually broken free from the connector at the valve cover bolt. . Replaced unity and so far it seems to be running fine. . But I will def look into the intake manifold gasket. .

Easy right now yea. But if don't address the plenum issue, that pretty much all Magnum motors have. It won't be easy or cheap in the long run.
