i have a 1997 ram 1500 ext cab. 2wd 5.2L. its all stock right now. should i put a little lift on it and 33's or level out the back and just put alot of performance parts on it to make it fast???

help me decide.

if you are wanting to go "fast" i would drop it. and keep smaller tires.

In my opinion, if you are that undecided about whether to lift or drop your truck, you should do neither. Both require a significant amount of work and money. You need to be absolutely sure what you want to do before you put out the time and coin. If you're not sure, you could get way down the path on one and realize you wish you had done the opposite. That's a huge waste of time and money. I think you need to decide for yourself what you want first, not what we think you should do. Just my 2 cents.

 

silver dodge makes a good point. but all my friends are tellin me not 2 lift because its a 2wd. but you make a good point.

If I had a 2wd I would level the back down and make it fast. No sense in spending money on a lift and bigger tires with no 4wd capabilities IMO. Either way, I would definitely take Silver's advice.

 

"fast truck", what those word go together??..j/k.. just level it out..and save up money for things that your going to break, plenum gasket..ect the list goes on....

but if you want to lift there a simple way my buddy did his ram

leveled the truck in the front 2in spacer, then homemade 2in body lift, it wasn't huge but it just sat about the same with a stock 4x4.

 

keep it the same and spend the money on performance its 2wd. no reason for a lift. silver has a point

 

spend the money on mods or save it for a new transmission...

If you only want to drop the rear a little bit, you can get a kit for that without spending too much. If it sits high in the back, and you rarely carry any weight in it, that might be a good option.

Big tires will slow your truck down, and lower fuel mpg. Shorter, lighter tires will improve street performance. I don't see much point in lifting and adding big tires to your 2wd if you don't have to go offroad.

I'd like to lower my truck a little. I'm putting off spending that money, though. Lot's of other things to spend it on first.
