reasonable expectations
im posting this as kind of a followup to the 300-350 thread my 5.2 is kinda slugish and i know it can do better, although i think i also have a trans issue thats a diferent problem. if the lets call them cheaper mods are done such as the round filter, tuner, high flow cat, fastman throttle body, kegger mod, and some exhaust work how much does this improve performance? then to spend some money are 1.7 rocker arms and headwork worth the money? im not looking for some hotrod truck but im used to working on gm's in comparison my dodge and some friends i have test driven are kinda pigs but i love my ram and just want to close the gap a little.
I think the 1.7s are supposed to be a 20-25 hp mod on a stock motor (think that's what Silver Dodge said)...not bad for about $350. Based on reading post after post on here about mods, it seems like a few things pop out as the best ones. Here would a decent list of things to do. Anyone feel free to add more here:
1. Do a good tune-up
2. Fix the plenum (if need be)
3. Get a good intake/exhaust system (round/CAI whatever, headers, cat, muffler)
4. Get the Fastman
5. Get the 1.7s
6. Get the SCT
