yeah, that happened to me too. All the cooler stat is good for is a little more pep as my motor really fell flat on stock stat. Anyway, when I installed my hypertech, it pinged terribly until I switched back to champion plugs and ran plenty of seafoam and mccc through it. I also run 89 octane and hardly get a ping anymore. When I hear it, I know it's time for more seafoam.

i added a hypertech and mine started pinging really bad. 3923 didn't help. 89-93 quietened it down. turned out to be blown plenum. fixed that and now it runs 87 fine w/no ping. check for a big puddle of oil in the bottom of the plenum.

I hope after all my mods I don't have this problem. The engine will be clean. I'll have the cooler plugs and 180 t stat. I'm praying for a flawless no problem install

I would think that with your plenum being 100% good after the build-up you shouldn't have any problems...I'll pray for you, too.

Did you check to make sure the intake is still sealed, did you use the felpro/victor gasket or did you get the Hughes Engines one, I have not had ANY hughes engine ones come bacK at all, but from what i have seen the stock Silicone fix, and sometimes the felpro/victor ones will re-leak. the hughes is a 1/4 inch thick plate that doesnt bend or distort, and it comes with a hard type gasket ,and bolts, that you loctite, just thought I would share incase someone has not heard of these............kind of pricey ,but for piece of mind........and also usually the converter is getting plugged up from all the oil, have the shop run a converter temp test.
