Gas guage problem!

The closest Wally World to us is 45 miles away going north and 44 miles and a $17.00 toll going south. The Eastern Shore of Virginia is somewhat remote from the "finer" things in life. The one saving thing is unless posted otherwise all the speed limits are 55 and there are only about 43,000 people living here.

I have a 2005 RT MAGNUM (17,000 miles) today gas gage showed 1/4 tank and I hade to be towed to Dodge dealer (car stoped dead on the highway) ansewer:ran out of gas, sending unit in gas tank went bad. To fix must replace fuel pump and sending unit, all in one pakage? Pump is ok sending unit bad. The only good thing is they (dealer) said there is a cover under the seat, so wont have to drop tank to get to pump&sending unit. $$375.00 good thing I got extended warenty $100.00

DIGGER, I would also post this in the Magnum section, but if its like the older Rams, our sending units can be replaced independently of the pumps. I guess I wouldn't care if its under warranty, sure, replace the whole thing, but if a dealer ever tries to tell you that the whole thing needs to be replaced for a bad sending unit, "that'll be $300+ please", get a second opinion from a trusted mechanic.

I've had this problem with my Dakota for years. Just hav'nt been motorvated to fix it.
I just reset the trip meter each time I get gas and when it gets to approximately 200 I fill it up. Of course there have been several times when I couldn't remember if I reset the trip meter, doh!

I too, fill my truck up when it hits 200-250 miles - which leaves about 1/4 tank left. Not good to run the tank too low.
