new motor and trans (help)

Default new motor and trans (help)

i have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.9L . it has high miles and the tranny went out.anyone know of any good places to find one. also i want to rebulid the motor. should i rebulid it or find a new one. does anyone know of any other motors and such that will fit in there and us the same computer, i just want so more power out of it. thanks for the help. josh

Dr. Evil, fastman, or APS is the way to go with the trans. As far as the motor goes, do it yourself, or get a crate motor. Maybe you can just do some upgrades on it and add some internal stuff here and there depending on miles and the actual condition of it. Start with a compression test.

Yeah, go with zman17's tranny advice for sure, unless you have a GOOD AND TRUSTWORTHY tranny rebuilder nearby...not some chain shop. The only 360 crate motor I have seen was about $6,000 and put out 390HP/420TQ. There may be cheaper ones than that out there, but I don't know where. I would look for a rebuild kit and consider DIY.
