Default Getting ready to do Ball Joints/ Wheel Bearings

Alright, just like the title says, I'm getting ready to replace my ball joints and wheel bearings. I have a few questions.

First and foremost, 2001, 1500 2WD 318.

There seems to be some debate here about weather or not the whole hub has to be replaced, or just the bearing. In either case, how much am I looking at for both sides?

Second, ball joints are going to be a pain I know. How should I go about replacing them? My buddy thought we could cut out the rivets holding them in, step the holes out and replace with Grade A bolts or a similar high quality bolt.

Does anyone have any input on that? Should I just do the wheel bearings myself then get the ball joints done? Or is it doable myself.

Thanks ahead of time folks!
