I believe it is eaiser to lift the bed off of the frame.

Does that mean I can leave the tank in place?

I don't take the bed off, but it all depends on how much fuel you have, if you have a descent jack, and how bad the strap bolts are rusted. If you have the equipment or a bunch of friends the bed is probably easier. It's your call.
