Default Removing Tailgate plastic, any hints?

So im gonna remove the ugly black plastic from the bottom of my tailgate today. So far im just gonna set a heater next to it and try to warm it up enough to peal off. But is there any other tricks you may know of to removing the double sided tape, keep in mind my tailgate is painted and im not trying to mess it up.

Thanks,

Go and get a good heat gun from Lowes or a Home Depot. They cost like $25 and make it a WHOLE lot eaiser.

Use fishing line or dental floss to cut through the double sided tape visit the local auto body supply shop and ask for a magic eraser. I think that's what its called, mine is from a company called Astro Pneumatic Tool Co part, number 400E. It's a 4inch dia eraser that mounts in your drill, use a real low speed and the tape and glue comes right off. I think it's quicker, safer and easier then the heat gun. just my .02

Once the plastic is off I can get the tape, im more concerned with getting the plastic to separate from the tailgate so I can remove the plastic. Or if it sticks to the plastic, either way. Im just trying to get the plastic off.

Thanks for the Fishing line, I may have to pick some up, got it next to the heater, it has alittle play but still not enough to get off.

Try using WD-40 it is a great tool to use to remove sticky stuff such as glue or road tar. You could try spraying it in between the plastic if you can get enough play to get behind it.

The heat gun and WD40 is the way to go for stickers and decals but for the chrome badges and body molding the fishing line works great. Just run the fishing line between the tailgate and the plastic molding and use it like a saw.

There was a guy a couple months ago that did a write up on taking it off on either here or *********.com, do a search. I was thinking about doing mine.
