It could vary by model year and pre vs. post cat. Or do you have the type that is straight into the middle of the cat?

yea, I got the one that goes straight into the cat. I am replacing the cat and might as well replace the o2 sensor in it while I'm at it.

The one "in" the cat is the same as "before" the cat, I believe. (At least, in parts descriptions anyway.)
Most later models (1999-up, maybe some 1998s as well) had a y-pipe going into a converter with the sensor before the y-pipe, rather than one in the converter.
