Default New Owner, new problems!

Hey guys/gals,

I purchased a 2000 ram sport 4x4 with a 318ci motor. It's a nice truck and it does exactly what I bought it for.

Well, I was gettin on the on-ramp for the interstate today and when I went to give it gas to get up to speed I heard a large bang and I pulled over. The front drive shaft was on the ground I got it home and will take it to the shop for repair, but for my own information, what transmission/transfer case do I have? I will need a new trans-pan (thanks drive shaft!), is there and aftermarket pan available with additional capacity? I basically want to be armed with enough info so that I may do some research and not get screwed over.

Thanks in advance

http://www.mag-hytec.com Makes good transmission pans.

You have a 46RE transmission.

Cool, thanks for the info.

If the 46re is the correct tranny, then I do not see that Mag-Hytec makes a pan

There are more than a few aftermarket pans, usually of the "deep" variety that hold more fluid (better cooling = longer lasting tranny).

Any V8s in our Rams from 1996-2001 had the 46RE transmission, and the NV231HD transfer case I believe... not sure on the transfer case. Someone else will correct me if I'm mistaken.

I think there are 2: NV231D and NV231HD...not sure what exactly makes them different. I know my build sheet says HD but the tag on my t-case says D.

Thanks for help guys, the new pan is on the way.

I need a ring and pinion set for my front axle, and I wouldn't mind a new front driveshaft. Where do you guys suggest to get gear sets and an installation kit.

Thanks again
