Lost reverse - how to fix??
I just got back with my buddy from what is supposed to be a couple of hours off-road trip.
Well it ended up being like 4-5 hours of trying to get the truck back on the road.
First we went down a very narrow river canyon until I said there is no way I'm taking this truck further. Only then we noticed NO REVERSE - Ohhhh S%$!#%T!
We had to winch it out with the winch cable going through the bottom of the truck so we can back up enough to turn the truck around.
Well anyway we went through some mud puddles back and forth just about an hour before and reverse seemed OK.
Once it was time to go back it was gone.
I've read a bit about this issue and first thing I should try is to adjust the reverse band and/or rebuild reverse piston.
How do I do all this stuff??? I am mechanically savvy and have lots of tools.
Do I need to drop the transmission pan and the valve body?
Hopefully I don't have to take a whole tranny out.
Please, any help appreciated.

This tranny has barely 300 miles on it.
I think adjustment should take care of the issue.
All forward gears pull strong and it does not make any "funny" sounds.
I'll be under it tomorrow and see if I was right.

Update - It's not the band.
The whole accumulator piston is all the way down (meaning in)
I can move the whole arm in and out about 1 inch.
What do I do now??
Can I rebuild the reverse piston without taking tranny out?
I hope MonteC will see this and give me a hint.
Anyone else input welcome
thanks all

Been on vacation sorry.
Either the band strut fell out or the reverse piston is broken. If the band strut fell out you are going to have a hell of a time getting it back in. You may even have a problem with the reverse band holding device.
What is the warranty on a dr evil transmission?
