A call to all you Off-Road guys...
its late, but i'll get in and subscribe.
My 3/4 ton ram sits on stock suspension w/ 315/70/17 (~35") H-2s with old jeep JKS sway bar disconnects I modified (truck is fine imo w/o bar connected on the road)
I've had Hummer H-2 wheels and tires on it for about 2 yrs and they flat out kick butt in everything, I've had plenty of different mud and AT tires even BFG Crawlers and IROKs on my jeep and the BFG A/Ts are best all around tire if you have to put on road miles
-no matter what type of off roading airing down tires almost always makes a big improvement
(carry a portable 12v compressor and air gage and experiment with best psi for your type of terrain)
-if you wheel with the stock front sway bar, you have to try running with it disconnected, its like adding a traction device
(do it at home first to make sure bolts are not seized and find a place to strap/tie it up, mine is pulled up , then under hood on pasg. side fender strapped up)

My jeep is a major project now, so to get my anger out I wheel the Ram in some wild places here in Phoenix, "when you stop worrying about scratching the paint, you end up going so much further"
with just above mods (& stock trac-loc limited-slip in rear, open front D-60s, 4.10s) it does better then any big truck has a right to, its super stable on off camber climbs, and its the perfect wheelbase for steep climbs, I run about 12-20 psi in the desert, rocks and dunes, not much money into it but I get asked all the time if I have lockers front and rear or holly sh@@ I can't believe you got here in that
I can follow small built jeeps on some harry stuff (the big rocks will hold me up) the front and rear suspension will flex to the limit of the shocks (forgot, the rear leaf clamps have been opened up to flex more, stock rear shocks and close to stock length front shocks)
I think the gas 2500's have the best stock spring rates for good compromise of ride and performance, and the only better off road combo may be a std. bed/std. cab 2500 (I have ext. cab/std bed) of course its basically a 1/2 ton with 1 ton axles
when I loose traction on a climb, I put an old glove under the parking brake release so I can push the park brake and without having to release it to get diff to lock better (been lucky, both rear trac-locks i've had have been tight)
it has towed my heavy jeep to Moab a couple a years ago (although it sucks on the hills!)
so far I have:
=major brush pinstripes all over truck
=dented rockers
=dented bed side
=dented front diff cover
=bent tie rod
=broken front marker light
=surprisingly strong bumpers that are all dented
=dented tailgate (last month backed into a tree on a tight trail "Table Mesa")
=broke off the evap cannister under truck
=gouged the plastic fuel tank (I really need to build some sort of skid plate under tank and evap)
=broke a stock front shock
=spun the rims inside the tires from low psi (messes up balance)
=grenaded one trac-lock (and gears) in the rear Dana 60
with the larger tires, on the road I could use 4.56 or 4.88 gears, MPG sucks, will put in a Detroit locker in rear if I break again, and or a lock-right in front, may put in a Cummings turbo drive train in if I ever finish my jeep, need a good tow rig.
Rams are the best late model full size off-roader IMHO

Hey Guys, I'm looking for a little advice. I drive a 2001 Ram 1500 4x4. I bought a nice set of 35" aggresive tires. My problem is, they don't fit in the front wheel well. They littlerally rub 3/4 of the inner fender. Anyone have any suggestions?
if you havent already, you need to upgrade to 4:56 gears minimum for 35s, and get a better differencial for the rear, the stock limited slip is very finiky, many here prefer yukon(mfg. name) gears, and either a "power trax no slip locker", or a "detroit tru-trac" differencials.
A little about my 3rd Ram:
1994 Ram SWB 4x4
5.9L, K&N, Flowmaster
'97 3/4 axles, Dana 60 front, Dana 70 rear, open for the moment
6" Dick Cepek Long arm suspension
H1 recentered double beadlocks
39.5" Swamper IROKS
Hydro assist steering
Custom front and rear bumper wired for winch(stored in bed) for front or rear use
Half cut bed, rock rash, trimmed front fenders
It is a heck of a rock crawler in the making, Goes anywhere I point it !!!!!!
