Zman,
Don't freak out if you here a little clacking on startup. That's normal until the oil gets thru the pushrods and oils up the rockers a bit. If it doesn't go away after about a minute, I'd shut her down and double check everything.
Before you put the valve covers back on, just double check the pushrods and make sure they are all parallel and seated in the rocker cup. Without the intake manifold off you can't check them for seating in the lifter cups, but don't be shy about pulling a rocker and double checking if you need to. Also, don't be shy about checking the torque on the rocker studs. Better to spend a little time now than a lot of money later.

56K nightmare! Sorry.
Well first off I don't want to hear how crappy my engine bay looks! LOL I care more about performance than how it looks, inside or out for that matter,
First thing I did was tie every up and away from the VC's so I had complete access to them, then removed the the spark plug wire holders and vc bolts.
Then obviously I removed the vc's. Looks good in there for 148k.
And here they are installed,
Push rods are not bent and no broken springs Everything looks good, thank you Mobil1.
just have to clean up the valve covers and bolts, reinstall the various hoses and electrical plugs, and she'll be ready to start. About 2 hours so far.

Hew Hampshire salt flats,LOL and living in places with no hot top driveways. Now that I have my own house and heated garage, it's parked inside.
It has power nothing, I wish it had power windows but that's all really. As far as cruise control goes, it doesn't see much highway , so I can live without it. Besides , it's just a work truck, and I just try to keep it running and in descent shape.
And right now I'm reusing the VC gaskets, as I need most if not all the bolts for the passenger side(rusted ,deteriorated bolt heads) . And I will probably get new covers also.
