I did this on my 88 Dakota Express after some moron broke into it. I installed it using the rope trick and used no sealer. That was 15 years ago and it doesn't leak. But I'm sure when you get the new one it will have directions and recommendations on how to proceed with the install.
I tried to do one on a 91 Ford Ranger when it started to leak. Took me hours to do and it still leaked water. Wound up taking it to an autoglass place and had them do it for a very reasonable amount of time and money with good results. From then on my motto is: "I don't do windows."
im still undecided as to weather or not im going to try this. what is the rope trick? im using a window from the scrap yard got a good deal came tinted

You get a long enough piece to go all the way around the gasket and some extra both ends. You put the rope down in the gasket slot leaving about a foot hanging out both ends of rope. With some one outside to hold the window and push it in to seat the gasket as you pull the rope out from inside.
