Have you tried it on the 87 tune to see if the CEL flashes? Maybe pull the pre o2 sensor and clean it. And I would have the actual pressure checked for the cat.

Damn, all the way in Texas. I have a back pressure test kit too.

actually you can see thru the cat if you shine a light thru it. it's very easy to check for blockages that way. It was clear.

I'll pull the front O2 and check it.

I've tried replacing or testing all ignition components going all the way back to stock. No help.

i read on a forum that a guy put sand in where the oil is to port and polish it, and he said it made it worse ???

I'm thinking along the lines of dhvaughn. The only thing left is air/fuel ratio and ignition timing settings in the PCM. Sounds like a job for Hemifever.

You don't want to do that until after you put in the 1.7's. Besides, I think you lose too much bottom end with that mod.
