Question Block Heater for a Gas truck?

He guys,
My room mate has to plug in his diesel at night and im jealous that he has some decent warm air blowing after 5 min of his truck idling, his hoses are actually warm to the touch even when its 30* outside. Meanwhile mine takes a good 10-15min to warm up to the point that it will melt the frost off my windshield.

So my question is this. Is there something I can add to my truck to plug it in and keep it warmer so I dont have to let it ilde so long to warm up? Ive heard of dipstick heaters but not sure how well they work.

Anyone have some type of heater on there gaser? Inputs welcome.

Thanks,

Mine is the factory block heater. While it takes longer than 5 minutes to warm up, it starts up a lot nicer when its below zero out and warms up faster to.

So some of our gas trucks came factory with a block heater? Wonder how hard it would be to put one on mine? Hopefully its got the setup and just needs to piece, where would I check on my engine to find out?

Thanks

You can get a circulating block heater, pretty easy install. Look at you heater hoses on the passenger side, remove hose clamps remove adapter, install Y-fitting, take out threaded plug out of side of the eng block, install pipe fitting, hook up hoses, mount the heater to passenger side fenderwell. Does an aight job, the other option is a freeze plug block heater. These work better in my opinion. Get one for your truck, follow instructions on where to put it, remove old freeze plug, install heater. Both about the same work. I usually dont plug my truck in until it hits -20 every night.

Sweet. Will be getting one next winter.

Btw I was skimming through my 1999 FSM, and found that the factory heater is next to the oil filter.

You can install those where the freeze plugs are at.. So if you want it by the oil filter there is a freeze out plug near there , just install it there..
