When you are referring to "dual" exhaust, do you mean a "true-dual"? I'm assuming you are in fact referring to a true dual because you mentioned an h-pipe. I think it should be dual either way (true or fake). I just don't really like the look of one pipe. I think it would look really cool with two pipes going out BEHIND the rear tire together. I'm not a fan of the pipes coming before the rear tire, it just looks like a last minute decision/don't really care. Pick up a nice set of tips and have them go behind the passenger side tire, I think that would look very sharp. Just my two cents.

I've had both on an assortment of vehicles. All the duals I had were true with a crossover pipe welded in. True duals sound really good, but honestly I really like the deep sound and simplicity of my 3" single system. I think it also helps that my hearing is not as good as it was in my 20's.

I agree, I think a single system (single/fake dual) sound better than a true dual. They sound deeper, and smoother. A true dual creates an awkward slapping sound of some sort at full throttle. Even with an h-pipe, it's still there. I'm sure an x-pipe could smooth out a true dual, but most people don't run an x. It's difficult telling somebody what they should do though. It all comes down to what somebody is after. If you want sound, don't waste your money with a true dual...a single exhaust can be just as loud as ever. But, if your into performance, running a true dual system can be beneficiary, only if the piping size is correct. If I ran a true dual, I would run 2.25" piping. But then again....running pipe that small to me isn't appealing. Hence why I enjoy my 3" system.

yeah it would be true dual....right now i have a gutted cat that splits to dual 2.25 and straight out the back with 3" tips....the reason i want it out the side is that its not too common and i like the look.......just cant decide....hmmm....any vids of a single system?..

wow, i think im stuck on the 3"....just looked around youtube and its fairly common for dakota r/ts to have side exhaust....if you look be sure to search for 3" truck exhaust or youll find a bunch of rice burners....the ones i heard sounded pretty good and since its single, itll be cheaper if i want to experiment with other mufflers...thanks for all the input guys......if anyones interested this is a vid of my truck b4 the head work and gutted cat......both made it a bit louder...

So are you opposed to having a tip going behind each rear tire? One pipe isn't bad either, but if you go one pipe, have it go behind the rear tire. I just really hate the look of pipes going before the rear tire unless it's integrated through a bodykit or something, like an SVT lightning.
