Not to burst your bubble, but "the miss" you can't find is the dreaded head crack. Start thinking in that direction if a new ignition system doesn't do it for you.

Default Stumbling...

The engine will start up fine and idle fine. After about five minutes of idleing the engne will start to stumble and miss. It gets progressivly worse and almost stalls. If I hit the gas it revs right up with out any problems. Then it will go back to stumbling again. When driving, it hapens when the truck goes into overdrive and the RPMs lower down to 1500 RPM. Then the engine will cut out, back fire, spit and sputter. If I floor it it will take right off and go. It only seems to happen at low rpms when driving.
Heres what I have done so far....
Cap,rotor, wires, plugs. I have OHMED out the coil, it was fine, i checked the Pick Up coil or Cam Postion Sensor and it was fine. I checked the fuel pressure at the rail and it was fine, it was about 50 psi, although it did seem to flutter when the engine was stumbling / Missing but it never dropped below 40 psi.
I am stumped. From some of the other posts I have seen I am thinking it maybe the fuel pump. Although it really seems like it is somthing with the Ignition / Spark. The exhuast seems to be flowing fine so I wouldnt think that it is the CAT.
Any Suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if this helps but i also had same probs but i thought maybe trans was going out, took to AAMCO and wasnt trans found out it was fuel injectors and spk plugs truck is running like new..hope somehow helps.

Crank sensor or O2 sensor. If it runs fine for the first few minutes, and then starts screwing up, replace the Pre-cat O2 sensor.

What if he unplugged the front 02 sensor and drove it? Would / should it just run in open loop and drive good enough to verify that it is the 02 sensor that is at fault? Do not know if that would work or not, but sort of does sound like a bad 02.

That's actually the recommended test for just such an occasion.

Didn't know that was the test, but figured I would try it if it was mine to confirm or rule it out. Sounds like a redneck came up with that test. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I don't know who came up with it originally, but I'd recommend it and I'm no redneck. I married one once, but, ya know, a leggy blonde fashion model is a leggy blonde fashion model even if she does have a soft spot for cousins once she gets a little too much Strawberry Hill into her.

Glad to see you fixed the 2001 dodge ram . I also have a 2001 5.2L and the last part that I replaced is the harmonic balancer, because I learned that a bad one can cause misfire and damage the transmission over time. If the rubber is cracked like mine was I would replace rather than wait for it to fall apart when driving. Frank
