I wish I could say that but my truck repair experiences are more like the ones squirrels is having recently.

Got it done tonight. Damn I hate when the little crap slows you down. Couldn't believe how dirty the other rad was. It looked terrible. Not too thrilled with the new drain ****, it doesn't have a spicket, the whole thing just twists out. That's gonna make a mess everywhere the next time I gotta drain the coolant.

On the bright side, I got to reposition the electric fans and get the zip ties right where I wanted them.

Anybody have any idea why my cooling system internals would be corroding? I have never used tap water (only distilled) and only use Ethylene Glycol, no additives. It shouldn't be doing that.

This may be an insane question, but where do you have your electric fans grounded? Also, I believe you need rust inhibitors of some sort in the coolant. Glycol will keep the solution from freezing, but it has no rust inhibiting properties.

Fans are grounded back to the Battery.

so what's a good additive? That Royal Purple stuff?

Also, should the coolant show any electrical charge at all? I got a faint voltage from the coolant when I checked it 3 months ago, like about .11 Volts. Not sure what's causing that.

I use the Preston orange stuff 50/50 with distilled water. If you create your own mix with glycol and water and then add inhibitors, then there may be some HD Diesel engine sites that might help. I do a lot of business with Detroit Diesel, MTU, EMD, etc. and they all have fluid recommendations for doing this.

There will alway be some electrolytic activity in a cooling system, but not sure what an acceptable level should be. I will check mine for comparison purposes.

Hey the only thing I'll warn you about is that the trans fluid connection to the radiator and tight....I just replaced one and all seems nice and tighter but I have a small leak on BOTH connections! Talk about being freaked when I drove 65 miles and my trans fluid was almost out!

Thank god I checked it when I got home cause just because then I noticed a drip...drip...I was wtf?!? cause the drip was on the passenger side and my old radiator leaked on the driver side cause of a bad seal.

Good luck to you.

Yeah, I was almost positive mine were going to leak, because I didn't have any tool to take apart those "Quick (BS!)" disconnects, so I reused the old fittings. I got them all put back together and as tight as I could, and I don't see any leaks. THose lines were the only part that sucked, actually. Pretty easy otherwise.

Chrysler went away from DexCool (the orange stuff) as it ate the internals of its engines.
