Default Purge Solenoid CEL

Hey everyone.

I keep getting a CEL for a purge solenoid. It comes on once the trucks heat gauge registers, and it kinda sputters under light acceleration, and its pretty bad when you hold it at any speed. It's really noticeable when the rpms are above 2000. The truck drives fine when you accelerate normally, and all the way up to highway speeds (80km/hr)

I checked the charcoal canister under the truck and it didnt seem to have any splits in it. I was wondering if someone could tell me where to locate the actual purge solenoid itself?

It's on the right side inner fender , follow the hoses coming from the canister. Actually, you should check all the hoses too, not just the canister. The solenoid also as an electrical connection you can check.

i had the code come up twice on me...replaced the purge solinoid twice..then the canister which by the way had come apart..and there was charcoal all through my lines...cleaned the lines out with air ,, replaced the canister went for about 2 months...code again ...took it to shop...told em what was happening...told them what i had replaced...so they took a low pressure smoke charge and checked my lines and and found a leak..replaced....good 6 months now...

On mine, it's mounted to the back of the intake.

'95 should be on the intake as well. I don't know when they changed to the right fender, but it was after 97.

There was a recall on that early purge system...might check and see if its still active.

Yeah I have the '01 service manual and they said its on the inner right fender but there's nothing there. Back of the intake?.... I had it off in the summer... its not that round thingy with the elec. connector and 3 vacuum hoses connecting up to it??? ( I don't mean the EGR either)

IIRC, a hose from the TB routes to it and then then hose from the charcoal canister. It's on the driver's side of the intake (EGR was last on 1995?) My 1997 does not have the EGR.

That's probably it, mine is on the fender and only has 2 hoses and 1 elec connection.

Yeah that sounds about right. I was poking around back there acouple weeks ago and the hoses seem intact. Maybe I'll just get another canister and see if that helps?
