Rear end is toast what should I do?
So I had thim humming noise when I let off the gas I thought it would be just the pinion bearing but it looks like everything is bad, broken tooth on the ring gear clutch material from the lsd and metal shavings all over the place. The shop says $1200 to fix it but suggested a junk yard rearend might be better money wise. The rear end swap would be roughly $600 to $800.
Question is what should I do? Would a 4wd rear end be better than a 2wd rear end? I dont really care about the lsd since I have 2wd now and the most I do is haul a load of trash to the dump once in a while and pull my boat for maybe 1500 lbs about 5 miles to the lake.
Thanks for your input.

no. the speed sensor reads the tone ring at the top of the pumpkin. its independent of gear ratio, and dependent only on tire size. your truck will be programmed for the stock tire size listed on the door jamb sticker.

Mine did it back in early october I think, I dont know how many people on the forum remember when I went through that ordeal. But it cost me $550 to get a rear end with only 40k miles on it, the first one I paid for had 80k on it but it went bad the night I got it swapped in, so the junkyard gave me the other one to replace the one that went bad. I did the swap myself, its not a real hard one except getting the e-brake set back up, but the only reason why that was tough on mine is because I have a 2 door with a back seat and the one they got me was from a 2 door without so the cables werent long enough, if you get one off the same cab and bed as yours you shouldnt have any problem reconnecting the e-brake.
