Has anyone ever powder-coated any wheels?
I am wanting to black-out my 99 Sport. It won't be a hard job, just a few items.
The headlight's/fogs; there are smoked covers available
The Nerf bars and bed rails are chrome
Chrome Wheels;
everything else is already black.
My question is as far as the Wheels especially because they would be a lot more expensive to just replace black, and the Nerf & bed rails is, would powder-coating black
be a viable alternative? Has anyone other than Jesse J. or Orange County choppers ever really powder-coated anything that actually had to stand up to any abuse? My truck is a daily driver in addition to weekend swamp buggy. I wonder how well can anything be adhered to the chrome or will it become a flaking mess real quick??

I know that most powder coating places around here wont touch em.If they do its crazy expensive.Why not paint them yourself? Just wondering. I have heard tale that the cooking may sometimes weaken the wheel when powder coating ,but you know how people speculate.
I don't know why you'd waste so much time and money powder coating wheels that you are going to offroad with.
Rattle can those *****. Mine turned out beautifully for under $20.

+1 When I first read this thread I was going to point out Vipers "Panty Time" thread.

Ok, before you get the black headlight covers, either clean or replace them. With the black covers you can barely see anyways, so the yellowed lights will make that even worse.
Here is How-To restore your Headlights and fogs(I know Its S10, but same procedure)

I actually have access to a powder system and oven, thats why I was considering it over just painting them. Cost would be material only, and I believe less than $45 for all resins and shop materials . That is the reason I am willing to go that route IF IT TRULY holds up better. I am leary of getting any finish to adhere really well to a chromed wheel though. Just thought maybe someone had alreay done it, and knew.

I guys on the JEEP board I go to have done it and have been very happy with it, but I think they do it with steel wheel. You could also sell the chrome ones and buy black ones, blacked out trucks are awesome, I am almost done with my Ram and teh JEEP is already done. Just need to paint the Mirrors and tint the windows.
