Make sure you get some recovery straps too... don't count on others having them.

Warn winches rock. Their customer service is EXCELLENT! I had a solenoid box get messed up when my bumper got winched off ( long story), and they send me ALL the information I needed to get the box rebuilt.

I've heard good things about Mile Marker too... and I'm currently looking at their 12K hydraulic winch for the Ram...

That tiny winch probably worked because the stuff you were moving was able to roll freely. When you are stuck... you are not on level paved ground. The load the winch would see greatly increases.

A CB wouldn't hurt either. A HAM would be even better. It is REALLY easy to get your license. Minimal studying and you'll be able to get your license. Here is a decent site with background: http://www.radioexam.org/. If you jump to section 2, you can take a sample test online to see if you would pass.

Even when you go out with a group... let someone know where you are going, and when you plan to be back. That way they can come look for you if you don't return.

Great response. Hi lifts are awsome. I've used a couple myself and intend on buying one soon. If you get a hi lift they have a kit where you can get a shovel head, pick, and something else to attach to the handle. Haven't used it myself but it looks really handy.

Just get some 2500 springs for the front and a plow, this way you don't have to walk through the snow or slush to get to the pizza place.
