Default starter performance mods...

I have been searching this site the past few days lookng for the general order of bolt on performance mods. I get the general info on the mods themselves, but I guess not general order of where to start. I guess obviously it is based on preference, but I like a professional/educated opinion. Well, exhaust and intake are always the first to put on, what about these roller rockers and throttle bodies.

Good order?
-headers (lt or shorty)
-exhaust
-intake
-throttle body
-rockers
-chip

My personal opinion on these 318/360 blocks is that there is vast amount of power to be had, with a large bank account. I mean these blocks go all the way back to 1992. It's not like the motor in my 06 Tundra where the motor was designed to work with all the factory components. But a Dodge motor that was basically the same for 18 years, has pontential. Would I be wright in saying that? Correct me if I am wrong. I have a 95 Dodge 1500, just a beater work truck with 178k. But I am beginning work on a 2000 Sport 4x4. Probably lift and wheels will be the first to go on. Thanks. And yes I am continuing to search past posts and threads. Thanks!!

Do them all at once if you have no budget, and don't forget the high flow cat. On a budget? I'd say the exhaust first headers, cat, and back.As far as LT or shorty's go, stay with shorty's to keep the most bottom end. Then Fastman TB and intake (14x3 mod or CAI,Volant is what I would like to try).Rockers next, then tuner after it's all said and done.Depending on how far you really go once you start,LOL will determine your choice of tuner. Due to age of the genII Rams now, make sure the truck is in good working order & had all its maintenance brought up to date. Any issues need to be taken care of before adding performance mods. That said

Not a pro, but have track tested every bolt on I have added before/after.
http://www.rm-indy.com/Performance_Gains.htm

Airfilter kit - 14x3" K&N(Edelbrock, K&N, Moroso lids/base) better than 95% of cai out there/except ramairbox. Ramairbox will give double the et reductions of any kit available.
Headers - shorties are fine till you get into the engine. Be sure to get either ceramic or stainless. Tritech & other brand coatings tend to be crap. Painted hdrs do not last.
Hi/flow cat & ypipe - this is where 75% of the performance gains are from the exhaust.
50/52mm tb (5.9 4x2 gets 52mm, 4x4s & 5.2s go 50mm)
1.7rr
Tune - SCT tuner best choice, good gains and can handle anything from bolt ons to serious engine/boost additions. Going a bit radical, need stand alone engine management dyno tuned.
Fans - ditch that viscous & shroud
Pulleys - I prefer the 3pc but will cause charge issues, think 2pc max for 99 & up (press on water pulley)
Gears - Most trucks have the wrong gears for how they are used. Big tires need big gears.
Catback exhaust - If Indy/SST or 98 or newer, next to no gains with a catback. 97 or older I would move this mod to #2 spot.

Wow! "98 or newer, next to no net gains with a catback"

Thanks for the details.

BTW I have a stock exhaust with a SECOND muffler AND triple cat Cali emissions and it flows plenty good.

The truck has 74,000 on it, with a 318, 3.55 gears, open rearend, 4x4 reg, cab, short bed. The engine is quiet. The trans growls in reverse when its cold, but most Dodge trannys do that. My boss bought it as a work truck, but came across a Hummer instead, so I am going get it. I was wrecked, but nothing major, all bolt on body panels. I plan on going with a 3" lift, only need to 33's, more than likely 285/75/16. Probably won't regear, but just use a speedo recalibrater.

Don't expect to much low end power with that size of tire and those gears. I plan on going with that size when my current ones are done, and I have 3.55 gears as well. If it wasn't so darn expensive to replace gears, that would have been before my tuner or modified intake were purchased.
