yeah its so easy to replace them in the truck.....a little tight sometimes tho.....you can get all of your bearings pretty cheap.....it is rarely your oil pumps fault

sounds like an offer but i am going to get it home and deal with it there. thanks anyway though..

yea i talked to my dad, i am going to get the bearings from autozone, they have ones with .010" over, standerd size, ande all that, but i am going to bring the truck into the shop, pull pan, find out how many are slopped, and go from there. and i will keep everyone posted.

one other question i have. my dad says he knows the older ones had it but not sure about these new trans, the old 518 trans had an oil line that went to the intake, and it was the cause of mny smoky trucks, he siad it sounds like the vacuum canister went bad and that is what i am burning wen it smokes. do our trucks have this line?

i have no idea, i really should check that, what i am doing is keep an eye on the trans fluid, if it goes down its the trans fluid. if the engine oil goes down, its the oil thats burning, but i know its coming from somewhere. oh well, like i siad, it will be getting parked and pulled in late march early april. so everything will be straight then

is it smoke or steam? i dont see how it would be able to burn tranny fluid at all, the only trans lines run to and from the radiator and no where else unless you have an external cooler, but still no where near the intake, so you dont know what kind of oil pressure you have?

you can install a high volume oil pump that will help with the knock at low rpm by keeping the oil pressure from getting to low.
this will not fix the bearing wear that you have but it will buy you sometime until you rebuild your engine.

well crap.
how did the crank journals look and feel. any scoring lines ?
how did the rod feel after torquing it down. tight, snug, loose ?
did you use stock bearings, or oversize ?
i'm asking this like i know where i''m going, but if everything looked and felt right, then i've got no new ideas, other than don't take off on 1000 mile drive like that.

How did you determine they were worn? Did you use standard size bearings? What were the clearances on the new bearings you put in?

i used the stock sized bearings, i asked the tech they have on hand and he siad they were gone, and to use the stock size, so thats what i did. and they were nice and tight. when i put them on. i have no ideas. but i know tht i am now in a frantic search for a used motor to put in this thing. found one for 780 including shipping. but it doesnt say it will fit the 98,, but it will fit the 97. whats the differance. i have the same vin code.
