Question 15x10 wheels

ok i have on order mickey thompson classic II 15x10 wheels. from what i am reading and with the research i have done with 4in. backspacing it will be ok but with less i will have to grind my brake calibers. correct? well the wheels i ordered have a 3 5/8 backspacing. that would be 3/8 off from 4in. so does that mean i will have to grind the corner of my calibers?

if worst come to worst you will have to get spacers i might just want to get them anyway.

didn't 16s come stock on your truck? if so i would stay with 16s, they were used for brake clearance. changing the backspacing that much will screw up your steering geometry and decrease your bearing life dramatically... and you know those badboys arent cheap.

The less backspacing the wheel has, the farther it sticks out... meaning you will have better luck with less backspacing. Backspacing is measured from the inside edge of the wheel to the actual mounting surface of the wheel (lay the wheel flat with the back up and measure from the mounting surface to the outside of the wheel).

I have yet to hear about a 15x10 wheel not fitting on a 2nd gen 1/2 ton, and I personally know several people with 15x10 wheels on 2nd gens with no problems. I have a set of 15x12 American Eagle aluminum rims and they rubbed my calipers. I ground the calipers down a little bit (about 8 years ago) and haven't had a problem since.

ok yes the 16's come stock and i would much rather go with 18's or 20's but here is the problem i have X amount of money. i have a child on the way so i am trying to use some on my truck and put some back cause i know i am gonna need it. so i went with 15's mounted balanced and ready to bolt on for $1400. the backspacing on the stock wheels is 5" the backspace on my new wheels will be 3 5/8. so that will help as far as grinding the calibers. but i should get them tomorrow and put them on thursday and hopefully have pics.

From what I have found (I've asked this same question) it has to do with the model year, not the generation. I was told that beginning in 2001, Dodge changed the caliper...something like from a single piston to double piston...can't remember exactly. Anyway, I was told 1994-2000, 15's are okay and 2001+, not okay. I wish someone would put this to rest...let us know if they work.

yea everyone i have talked to says i am gonna have to grind them i talked with a guy on mysace same year and wheels as me and he had to grind his so that tells me i will too. i just say screw it i got a grinder when they get here i will try them and if they dont fit i will grind away. but yes they changed from single piston to dual piston and mine is an 01 so that puts me in the dual piston category. but i guess we'll see

Yep, dual piston calipers are on 2000 and up. And again, your wheels will fit without grinding, even with dual piston calipers. My brother has 15x10 aluminum wheels on his 01... which fit with no grinding. But there will not be room for wheel weights in that area, its too close.
