This is the only vehicle I've ever had that would get an air lock in it. Of course I've only been driving since 1950.

i checked all the freeze plugs, thermostat housing, block drain plug, lower radiator hose, upper hose, both heater hoses, and all along the edges of the radiator. still no leaks found. my coolant level has not gone down either. i use a Mag Lite with the halogen bulb upgrade an this also works very well to spot coolant coolant leaks. if i;m not mistaken,to replace the heater core in the Dodge Ram i will need to remove the dashboard and the heater box and possibly open the A/C sytem.can anyone confirm or deny this info?

To change out the heater core you don't have to remove the dash or the A/C.

You do however have to loosen the dash up and pull it out.

It is kinda a PITA to get to, but altogether I didn't think it was too bad of a job to do. I have changed worse heater cores!

thats good to know! i'm more of a Ford man but with keen eye for a good deal when it comes to Dodge...lol. Ford heater cores are a cake walk.the few people i've talked with about the Dodge said it was a 6-7 hour job easily an that usually the dash needs to come out and possibly the A/C would need to be disconnected. not having to do all this would be a big help even if ya hafta fight a lil bit getting the core out and in.

Apparently you haven't had the "pleasure" in changing one in a '99 Taurus. That was the worst one I have ever done.

For my truck I just loosened things up and then pryed a little to get the heater core to pop out of the top of the heater box. I think I ran a total of about 3-4 hrs. Maybe I was just lucky!
