You need to start by having someone turn your steering wheel back and forth without the truck running, while you look at the intermediate shaft first. Check it for play where it comes out the firewall under the brake booster, then look at the slip joint, then the ujoint where it connects to the steering box. Then while you look at that from above see if the pitman arm is moving within that 1 1/2 play . If it isn't, then you can try tightening it http://dodgeram.org/tech/mods/steeri...ear/Adjust.htm. If it does move then get underneath while the person turns the wheel and look at all the steering parts and see what's loose.

Well the first thing you need to do is add ALL the info about your truck to your sig!

the haynes manual shows a pittman arm attached to the steering box of both 2wd and 4wd, and then shows an idler arm on the passenger side of the 2wd.

spray the nut on top of the steering box with PB-blaster for a couple of days and it'll come loose.
