Pi$$ed!
okay so first off to pre answer questions or statements i do not have the time nor the room to do them myself...anyway i went to a dealership last week to install a gauge pod, air/fuel ratio, trans. and water temp. gauges....they did those and did a transmission service yatta yatta cost me 600 bucks so i get my truck back and that NIGHT im driving and the thing dies and i sit in the middle of an intersection so after 5-10 minuntes i turn the key and pump that gas like crazy and it gets going....i go home and i watch it do it again...it only dies when im around 1000 rpms and i let off the gas... it starts off i let it off and push it back and the throttle response is delayed by a couple seconds..after a few times of that i let off the gas and back on and it just drops and dies..and restarts about 5 mins later with a key turn and alot of pedal pumping.....SO i get it TOWED back and tell them the problem they look at it and say "it wasnt our gauge job" its your throttle sensor something and the tstat and they say they can fix it and charge me ANOTHER 400 bucks so i pick it up tonight...on i75 it goes fine in the higher rpms and speed.. i take my exit and it does the same thing TWICE...dies AGAIN.....so since these idiots obviously dont know how to fix the problem they caused does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem would be....it would help me GREATLY!!!!
idle problems are usually either the throttle position sensor (TPS) or the idle air control (IAC) valve. they're sort of inter-related. each costs about $40-50 at local auto parts or about 75-80 at the dealer. i don't know how an a/f ratio gauge hooks up or how it works. it might be inter-related to the problem, or maybe they left something unhooked.
get some carb cleaner and run it through your throttle body, follow the instructions as the carb cleaner says, and it should help out. I had the same issues and they went away when I did this, it doesnt go away immediately though, so you have to wait a few days. Good Luck and I hope it works out for you! Sorry that the stealership screwed you...
ok, I had a problem with my truck sputtering and stalling when at a constat freeway speed for lets say... 10 minutes. the problem turned out to be multiple o2 sensor issues.
I have installed an air/fuel guage in my truck and you have to splice a wire into the signal wire comming from the O2 sensor to the PCM,
I would say that there is a good chance these are related. you need to look at the PCM connectors and see how the dealer spliced the wires. make sure its solid and on the right wire, also make sure they didnt cut the jacket on any other wire around it causing it to short either to a ground or cross to another wire.
Your PCM is on the passanger side firewall in the engine bay facing forward, i cant remember off hand which wire your looking for, but if you go to autometers website and look up their air/fuel guages, there will be instructions online, there it will tell you which wire you need to find. Good luck

I do almost everything to my vehicles myself and its funny how everytime i take one to a shop, i end up redoing what they have done, like the free install when you buy a remote starter sounds great until your dealing with a rats nest of wire, elecrical tape and zap straps.

NOT carb cleaner! Unless you like to take chances with TB backfires, use MCCC or deep creep
I installed my own narrowband A/F and after reading your post I've got to wonder how
they hooked up the gauge. I patched into a wire near my computer under the hood and
I'm wondering where they patched into. I'm hoping they didn't splice into the wiring at
the O2 sensor.

ok so check this out. i got some cleaner that was just called carb/throttle body cleaner...went out early this morning took off the CAI sprayed it like crazy....put the CAI back on and all that then just looked around for anything suspicious and i checked the new TPS and the plug going into it and the plug came right off i checked and pushed it back on until i heard a click and tried to pull it back off and it didnt so MAYBE they didnt have it connected all the way? regardless it being a few hours later i went out and test drove for AN HOUR going low speeds and RPMS the WHOLE time and a few times the throttle response was delayed but it never died..random times i thought it would because of the delay but it didnt so RIGHT NOW its doing better.. i may go spray a little more cleaner and wait awhile longer and see if the delays are eliminated as well.
bingo.
did you have check engine light on ? i've left mine off before, but it usually sets a p0123, tps voltage low.

thats the thing it never threw a code thats why im not sure if it was unhooked or not..but regardless ive been out multiple times today with no dying just a few times for delayed response so im hoping after the TB cleaner works more that'll stop and all will be well.....$1000 less
