MagnaFlow Cat guys come in
As I posted in a previous thread, I am having difficulty getting someone to install my MagnaFlow cat. I have a 97 Ram 4x4.
Today I brought it to a local muffler shop and they wanted $ 200 for the install. Without insulting anyone, I asked why so much. He brought me into the shop where my Ram was on the lift and showed the that the stock cat out pipe is angled upward and the MagnaFlow out pipe is straight. He needed to fabricate an angled pipe to match up. I politely said no thank you and was on my merry way.
So, there is a difference between the stock cat and the MagnaFlow that is supposed to be a direct fit for my Ram.
Did you guys who had this installed have an angled out pipe? or was yours straight like mine?
I am about to sell the thing because it as been a headache from day one.
Thank you.

I probably explained it wrong. The out pipe is only 2 inches but comes out straight. If you look at a stock cat, it is angled up to go over the cross member.
My direct fit was direct fit!LOL I have 2 1/2 or3 feet of pipe after the cat that is bent and has a hanger welded to it. Are you saying you only have 2 inches of pipe after the new cat? Why couldn't they just cut the old one in the right spot and splice it together?
Yeah I had a bought a universal 3" with a 3" to 2.5" adapter and the shop said ok. Charged me $50 to cut the old cat out, three welds (downtubes to pre cat, post cat to adapter, adapter to stock out pipe). He no sooner took it in and brought it back down off the rack. Sorry to hear your having such a problem.
As far as the angled out pipe, I am taking a flat out guess off the top of my head. From what I remember about those who gutted their cat, I believe the 360 application had a straight pipe out of the cat (which makes it easy to gut) where those with a 318 has a bend in the pipe. You didn't specify if you had a 318 (which im guessing you do) and the kit you got was the 360. I could be wrong but that is my best guess. If it comes down too it, don't have him install that mid section of pipe (post cat pre muffler) and install just the cat forward section. Honestly those downtube bolts are a mega pita! One wouldn't come out when bluebeast2 and I installed the shorty headers so bluebeast brought over his grinder and cut the nut off to break it free. Added hours to the install time. You may pay a little more, but 200 doesn't sound that bad when you think about how much hassel you've been through / how much more you might still run into. Up to you what you wanna do. Wish you luck!

If I miss understood your direct fit statement and you have just the cat itself, then they are just morons (remember that for future reference about that place). All they have to do is cut it and install an adapter like PCFIXER said.
