Another MPG Thread, sorry. lol
Okay, 2001 Extended Cab 4x4 5.9L Dodge Ram. Ok, before tune up I was getting 9.6mpg. After Seafoam Treatment I was getting 10.5, after tune up, (New Wires Plugs, Distributor Cap, Rotor) I am getting 9.6 mpg on two takes of gas. One of the wires, was all rusted on the Distributor cap, and was all carbon build up nasty. On the inside, cabon build up on all contacts, and rotor worn out. So I would thing this would bump me up to at least 11mpg. Well, I'm getting 9.6 even after a well needed tune up. *sigh* Don't get me wrong, love my truck, just wish I was getting same MPG as most people. Tire size are stock for the 01 LT245 75R16. Any suggestions? I was thinking the O2 Sensor, but my truck has just shy of 70k miles, and I heard you don't really need to worry about that till 80~100k+. I will begetting a cold air soon, and new exasut soon. Whatcha think?
okay.. first a proper tune-up is more than wire's, rotor, and cap!.. A complete tune-up is a lot more detailed than that! new filters, spark plugs, Coil, fluids, check timing, clean fuel system, ect....
Try running two bottles of Techron Fuel System Cleaner in a full tank... check the o2's..... clean the throttle body.... proper tire pressure... check the cat... change all fluids and filters.. compression tests ect... you truck in no different than ours.. and there is like 100 threads detailing everything you can do to increase your mileage! 9.5mpg is low... but do a search and you'll find a **** load of info on tune-ups and improving mpg!

I did do the plugs, and a new MSD Blaster 3 Ignition is on the wish list. All the fluids and filters are new. Ran Seafoam on a full take of gas 2-3 weeks ago. Tire pressure is 35 even on all tires, when I did a tune up, checked the Throttle Body, clean as a whistle. Forgot to list this stuff in the post.
I see a solid 1.5-2 mpg decrease in the winter just on different driving style, more idling, and winter blend gas.
Summer I average 10.5-11.5 with my 285's and winter I'm doing about 9-9.5 (city driving obviously). So you're slightly low based on my numbers but not too bad.
