Default California Cat. Problem

I have a 2001 dodge ram and the cats have gone bad. I was told that there were no aftermarket due to a new law in california and could only get them through the dealer for 1,500.00. Anyone know how to get this solved maybe a little cheaper?

if they are coming from the dealer you wont have an EO#. you might want to check into getting the cat swap done in reno... or, gut the 2 off the exhaust manifolds and get a new rear one. That's what I did with my '00 and it passed smog no problem.

I thought I might be able to get the new cat's from Nev. I was told by the dealer and the muffler shops that you can only buy all three at once. They come in a pack of all 3. Any leads on who to contact in Nev.??

I also could not get any muffler shop to do this kind of work for me. They all started talking about this new state law and wouldn't do anything but replace all 3 and said I would have to get them from the dealer and bring the cat's to them.

hell if I know. I took my truck in to get new cat's. I was told that it would be a few hundred dollars and the shop called me back saying it had increased to 2,000.00 becouse they could no longer get cat's for my truck. I called many shops and they all told me the same thing. It is to keep the crap cat's off the vehicles. I was told by some of the shops that people were putting new cat's on and they wouldn't pass smog. For my truck there are no aftermarket cat's available and no distributor will send them to the shops so they have to be purchased from the dealer. That's my story and it was told to me by many shops.
