It's going to be very loud. However, I'm not really a fan of the "gutted cat"....at least not anymore. Firstly, your truck is just really going to stink. Secondly, there's a possibility it's going to throw a CEL light or destroy your o2 sensors, and thirdly, it can create quite the drone inside the cab. Yes, it will make the exhaust louder and raspier, but to me, it isn't worth it. Investing in a universal magnaflow cat will give you similar results, and you won't have to worry about passing emissions, making your girlfriend sick at a stoplight, destroying o2 sensors, or being drowned by the drone.

So maybe if it's a money thing, split it up. Start by installing a cat back system. Cut everything off after the cat, and have an exhaust shop install a single inlet/dual outlet cherry bomb extreme system with a nice set of exhaust tips. This will still sound very loud. Then, when your ready, buy the universal magnaflow catalytic converter, and have the exhaust shop install it.

What changes are you wanting to know about?
Exhaust flow will be less restrictive, your PCM will throw a code for the post-cat O2 sensor reading, the exhaust tone will have more of a cackle to it under heavy throttle, the exhaust would then be louder than stock, the truck will no longer pass emissions testing, your wallet will be a little lighter...

is your truck a 94-95 because if it is it only has one o2 sensor and shouldn't throw any codes. my truck is a 95 5.2 and when i got it al the exhaust had fallen off all that was left was the manifolds. I made a custom y-pipe in place of the cat and put an o2 sensor in it. then i had about 10 inches of straight pie goin to a flowmaster 40 series that dumpsout right under the passenger seat. sounds great when you get on it but rattles glass at certain RPMs and tends to drone at highway speed. So it depends how loud you like your truck i think the system you are describing would be pretty nice but i'm part deaf i think.

360dodgeram360, i think if your exhaust exited further back it wouldnt be so harsh.
I have a 2-1/2" y-pipe into a 3" single pipe with no cat and a flowmaster super 40, exiting in the stock location. I love the sound, it is quite loud, but we're used drag prepped cars. there is some drone at idle sometimes, but its pretty much awsome. you can even set the odd car alarm off too. I have never been a fan of glasspacks, but i think youll like the sound level. as for the CEL, your on your own, iv been dealing with it for 2 years.

i gots the stock cat and a cherry bomb that splits into duals
but my system is falling apart after the cat, so im saving up to buy a heart throb system that just has resonated tips
or has any one seen a catback system that is just a single 2.5 inch that splits into 2.5 inch duals with no muffler, if so ill order that, buy a new cherry bomb with straight ends and cut the straight part of the pipe that comes off of the cat and put in the cherrybomb glasspack

and i am experienced with working on exhaust systems, i do all of the work done on my truck, so id be doing the system, so i'd know it was right

hey I have a 97 ram with flex pipe straight from the manifold outlet and leads to dual cherry bombs and I think it sounds great. I could have spent alot more money on a flowmaster muffler or a magnaflow but after driving with this exhaust for a while I am actually quite pleased. it doesnt sound really crappy and crackle like any straight pipes would and everyone will deffinetly hear you comming.
