Angry ram 1500 o/d problem

hey im new here and i have a 96 ram 1500 2wd and i have a tranny problem, everything is fine i just replaced the transmission and it wont shift into overdrive when the truck warms up, when its cold it works fine but when it gets hot (200 F degrees) it wont work, stays in 3rd gear, but then it sits for 4 hours and is cold as it can be it will work properly, its not the transmission fluid levels as i have checked it repeadetly, ??? any suggestions??? anybody had this happen to them? could it be the heat sensor on the transmission?, the filter? what????????

The OD lite always goes on when you start the truck. OD is on unless you turn it off. As far as the OD working when hot goes, sounds like the tranny is overheating (or at least the temp sensor is bad) . Have you had the codes read? Not all codes will give you a CEL.

id put a scanner on it and see if the computer is commanding O/D off. If it is then look at a computer or temp sensor problem. Or like zman said an overheating problem. A good scanner will tell you what the temp sensor is seeing.

If you scan it and the computer is commanding 4th gear but not getting it then it will be an internal problem with the transmission. Like a solenoid or clutch pack problem.
