Diagnostic tools
I have been working on vehicles for years and the evolution to more electronic modules has been interesting. I have spent hours fine tuning the chokes on carburated engines to get them to run good cold and I'm glad I now get in my fuel injected vehicles and just turn the key and they run great.
Of course newer vehicles run great when there are no problems but there will always be problems.
So, bottom line : if I think a vehicle is worth keeping for years, it is worth buying a scanner/ diagnostic tool to troubleshoot CEL or other drivability problems. I see 2 ways. A selfcontained handheld or software that runs on a laptop with an interface to the OBDII port.
Either could pay for itself by skipping 1 to 2 trips to a mechanic.

Indeed, +1
