I've had a few beers so I'll try again.

The factory 3' tailpipe is deceptive and deceiving. It causes people to think the exhaust is 3" when it's actually 2.5" It's my purely speculative WAG that a Dodge engineer justified the 3" as reducing backpressure thru the tailpipe for a slight performance gain.

I have a 95 Dakota that still has the factory 2.5" exhaust with 2.5" tailpipe. When I am coasting down a hill in my Dakota there is no exhaust rumbling. When I coast down a hill in my Ram the exhaust rumbles. They both have the same muffler. Only difference is the tailpipe.
I believe the 3" tailpipe on my Ram causes the rumble and I don't like it. When I get some money to burn I'm going to take off the brand new 3" tailpipe and install a 2.5"

Did you notice the new Rams have a second muffler (resonator?) in the tailpipe? Gee Wally, I wonder why that is there?

Sometimes I'm easier to understand after a few beers. If anyone didn't understand this time let me know and I will have a few more beers and try again.
Peace.
