VSS wire & PCM location question
Diefenbaker is correct. It has nothing to do with video playback or DVD's. GPS is for position, not for driving down the road. It's just that everyone has built their units to base speed off of tiangulation and some math, which is why your speed is never correctly displayed with gps units, it's an estimate.
I know this is hard to understand, I dont even get it half the time. But in order to have turn by turn and for some gps units to know you even moved, it has to get a speed signal. Dumb, yes. But Garmin just makes it easier for everyone else.
But it has NOTHING to do with dvd playback.

Sounds like a bad design on the designer's part.
The VSS is just a backup for hard-wired built in GPS devices. A handheld didn't have an additional input because it is an unit which you can hold in your hand and can use outside your car.
I bought the car here in Berlin more than 3 years ago. So I didn't imported the car.
Here is a picture of my car. It was shot at an US-Car-Meeting near Berlin in 2007.
