V10 vs. Cummins

V10 vs. Cummins
I have been trying to sell my truck ( 1996 ram 2500 V10) or trade it for a Jeep and nobody seems to want a V10. I have had about 7 people say they would buy it if it were a diesel. What I don't understand is what the difference is between the v10 and cummins. The trucks have the same transmission, frame, and suspension. The engine torque ratings are about the same (V10 450ftlbs torque, Cummins 460) and the V10 has more horsepower and can probably pull more. The only disadvantage I see that the V1o has is fuel economy. It was built to be an alternative option to the diesel. It is smoother, quieter, cheaper to maintain and more powerful. So what am I missing that the Cummins has that the V10 doesn't? Maybe the life of the engine?

Diesels are all the rage because of their power potential. The cummins can easily be souped up to twice its original power numbers. And the aftermarket is absolutely huge. Plus the fuel economy is about twice with a diesel. The life of a diesel is easily two to three times that of a gasser.

Leave it to dodge1500 to summarize what was already said.

...cummins is a better motor!

May be "better" because it's different but as far as capability the V10 kills the cummins. I have driven a 3500 with a cummins and I felt like an old man because the acceleration was soooo bad. They do run great but they are not as practicle as the V10 for doing anything but farm work. And they sound like a laughing horse and stink. I might get my uncle to let me borrow his 3500 and I'll make a video of me smoking it and dragging it. We use my truck to move the boats.........

cummins torque band starts at around 1200 rpm, and the v 10 has no where near that low of a torque curve, you buy a diesel to tow, most people are not concerned about 0-60 times the cummins is a power monster and it will out last, out perform, out work, and cost less than your v 10 face it already
